Both movies are brilliantly meta - ultimately what I'm judging between here is the genuine thrills of Scream & the all-out fun of TCitW... tough choice. I pick Scream just now, but these two movies shall forever be entwined on my Flickchart!

I love both but CITW had much more surprises whereas Scream was more scary. However .... I just don't know

Scream had pretty much a perfect start with Barrymore's death. Plus, the cast of Scream resonates with me more.

Both redefined the horror genre. Cabin in the Woods made it perfect.

CITW was essentially a parody of Scream and every movie like it; only it was made with love and respect for them. You can't beat that.

I don't like horror films in general, but I love inside jokes. I enjoyed Scream's send-up of Dead Teenager Movies, but it was perhaps too consciously in-jokey, while I enjoyed Cabin in the Woods more because it was more of a Process/Environment type of film. The cubicles with the monsters was especially fascinating.

Scream wins, there is no comparison!

I really liked what both of these did with the genre. It's gotta be Scream though.

The Cabin in the Woods was a bit too gimmicky for me, so it's gotta be Scream for me.

The Cabin in the Woods is clever, sharp satire made for true horror fans. As @randysandwich said, it's also parodying classics like Scream and it's doing that with love and respect. That being said, Scream still stands tall. It's one of the few films that I can affirm I liked from minute one. It still wins here.

Scream has aged pretty poorly. Cabin In The Woods' third act isn't as consistent as the first two but I would much rather watch that film over Scream!

I will tell you what, I don't really like Scream as a whole because it is more of a parody of horror, the only horror scene for me is the opening scene and this is enough to blow away The Cabin in the Woods even if the mad clown in it is really terrifying.
