Nancy Larson Hanlon died Wednesday at the age of 48 in her home in North Haven. Hanlon was a teacher in Fairfield’s Public School system for 18 years.
Over the last two decades, Hanlon taught students at Dwight, Burr and Jennings Elementary Schools. For the last three years, she was at North Stratfield, teaching fifth grade. “She was a caring, compassionate and very dedicated teacher who positively impacted the lives of hundreds of students,” North Stratfield principal Debbie Jackson wrote in an email to parents. “We are very deeply saddened by her loss.”
Jackson also said in the email that counselors would be available for all student and parents dealing with grief. Teachers also started Thursday’s session with an opportunity for their pupils to get answers to their questions about Hanlon’s death. Matthew Onderko, who has been student teaching in Hanlon’s class, will stay with the group for the rest of the year.
Hanlon is survived by her husband, Michael J. Hanlon; her children, Conor and Keegan; her mother, Mary Agnes Larson of Hamden; and her sister, Kathy Larson of Hamden. Calling hours are Friday, April 29, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2819 Whitney Avenue, Hamden, followed by burial at All Saints Cemetery.
